Carer Gateway is a national program to support carers, those people who give care and support on an informal basis, to a relative or friend who:
- has a disability or
- has a medical condition or
- has a mental health illness or
- has a life-limiting condition or
- has a drug or alcohol related condition or
- is frail because they are old
The service is available for Carers who are an Australian Citizen or Resident, as well as carers who hold a visa or have a refugee status. It is separate from My Aged Care and NDIS and requires no means or income testing.
Benevolent Society operates Carer Gateway throughout most of metropolitan Sydney, and Yourside covers the Northern Sydney area through to the Hills District. An organisation called Live Better provides Carer Gateway services in the Illawarra. If these areas do not apply to you, there are other organisations that provide the service throughout the rest of Australia.
To be connected with your nearest Carer Gateway Service Provider, call 1800 422 737 to have any questions about the service answered, and to complete the initial intake & registration.
