Fams fully endorses the establishment of a First Nations’ Voice to Parliament, enshrined within the Australian Constitution. We are committed to supporting meaningful change in our relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and will be standing in solidarity with our First Nations community members as we head to vote this Saturday.
Our CEO, Susan has been out on the streets in her local area. “I believe so strongly in the Yes vote”, said Susan. “Positive conversations with those in my community who have not spent the time to research credible sources of information, have made a real difference.”
This referendum will have a significant impact on our sector whatever the result. Fams will continue to work with our fellow peak body AbSec to drive meaningful changes that ensure we reduce the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families in the child protection system.
