National Child Protection week begins on Sunday from the 3-9th September 2023.
In line with the theme ‘where we start matters’ Fams will be championing the NSW roll out of the supportive playgroup enhancement program smalltalk and Big Yarns in partnership with The Parenting Research Centre (PRC).
This week we held a sector information session in collaboration with the PRC, where Annette Micheaux shared about these evidence-based programs.
Nearly 100 services participated in the session and an impressive 86% of attendees expressed enthusiasm for adopting these programs. The above word cloud shows words written by the sector on their excitement on the potential of a roll out of smalltalk and Big Yarns.
Here at Fams, we see this as a no-brainer win; its cost effective, supporting a sector that already has the relationships and trust with the families, and is a way to begin addressing the confronting issues raised in the Australian Child Maltreatment Study. It is an essential investment in early intervention and prevention that our children and families deserve.
