Last week, Lisa, our Sector Development Officer, attended the Elsie’s Conference.
Celebrating 50 years since the establishment of Elsie Women’s Refuge and the start of the women’s refuge movement in Australia, the conference brought together refuge and shelter workers, advocates and organisations, researchers and public policymakers and anyone interested in reducing domestic violence.
“I had two incredible days celebrating the history of Elsie’s and the current state of play in the women’s refuge movement,” said Lisa.
“It really demonstrated the power of collective hope and determination. I am in awe of so many women who have a laser focus on responding to the ripple effects of domestic and family violence”.
To mark this historic occasion, DV NSW has launched Australia’s first national Pledge to End Domestic and Family Violence – with Rosie Batty, AO, lifelong DVNSW member. Fams has signed the petition and we urge you to do the same. Together we can end domestic violence, and keep women, children, and communities safe.
