New Allowances for Young People and Carers in Out-Of-Home Care

New Allowances for Young People and Carers in Out-Of-Home Care

Earlier this year, the NSW Government announced different allowances for those in contact with the foster care system.

The Independent Living Allowance is designed for young people aged 18-20 who were in long-term statutory out-of-home care and are now living independently. It provides an extra $250 a fortnight.

The Staying On Allowance is for carers who have a young person aged 18-20 who chooses to stay in their placement after entering adulthood. This payment varies depending on the age of the young person.
