Post Budget Breakfast

Post Budget Breakfast

The Fams team, with Lauren, Bronte, and Lisa in attendance, joined the NCOSS Post-Budget 2023-2024 Breakfast on Tuesday morning.

During the event, we had the opportunity to hear from the Treasurer, the Hon Daniel Mookhey MLC, and the Shadow Treasurer, Hon Damien Tudehope MLC. Their discussions primarily revolved around the strengths and limitations of the new budget, with a strong emphasis on tackling the housing crisis and the vision to enhance housing affordability in NSW.

While there was mention of the child protection sector and the need for investment in early intervention, the messaging from the treasurer was that we are only starting out on the reform journey the sector needs to have.

A powerful panel discussion was held with Nemat Kharboutli (CEO, Muslim Women Australia), Julie Perkins (CEO, Gurehgam), Leo Patteron-Ross (CEO, Tenants Union) and Olivia Wright (Director, NCOSS). They delved into the practical repercussions faced by families dealing with the challenges of soaring living costs, poverty, and housing instability.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the NCOSS team for organising this invaluable event, where sector leaders could come together and emphasise the significance of these issues within our communities.
