This week our CEO, Susan met with Simon Santow and Jagadish Gorrepati from the The Office of the Hon Natasha Maclaren-Jones MLC, Minister for Families and Communities, and Minister for Disability Services. Anthony Shannon from DCJ also attended.
At the meeting it was agreed that although there had been some ambitious reforms in the child protection sector, the balance is still heavily skewed towards the crisis end of the child protection continuum.
The meeting attendees discussed the key focus of Fams’ platform; the need for an increase in funding across early intervention and prevention services, in particular funding that prioritises Aboriginal children and increased accountability.
“Our platform is all about rebalancing the system, increasing transparency and sustaining and growing the intervention and prevention response,” said Susan.
“This was a great opportunity to promote the incredibly important work of our sector and inform government about the challenges faced every day by front line staff.”
