Professional support for a strong workforce

Professional support for a strong workforce

Don’t leave supervision for workers out of your budget.

Many employers want to provide professional support to their staff but say they cannot afford it.

But professional supervision for family and community workers is more important than ever, especially in light of recent social stresses due to COVID-19, natural disasters and TEI reform.

That’s why, at budget time, it’s important to recognise the need for supervision.

Last year, Fams released findings from a survey in partnership with Anthony Shannon’s TEI team at the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ).

The findings revealed that:

  • 54.8% of CEOs/ managers said a barrier to providing staff with professional support is cost, however 72% reported that they have an annual budget for internal professional support and an additional 47% for external support.
  • 48% of workers who completed the survey believed professional support was too expensive and their organisation didn’t have the budget for it.

It is important for the whole sector to be aware of the support their organisation provides, and for individual workers to be aware of what is available to them and how they can access these resources.
