Advocacy in Action: Standing Up Together

Family Preservation

  • Alongside our Peak partners, AbSec and ACWA, Fams raised concerns directly with the Secretary of DCJ and called for stronger mitigation strategies during the Family Preservation transition.
  • DCJ has advised that risks have been anticipated and that a managed transition is unavoidable. What we continue to hear from services on the ground tells a different story.
  • Fams will continue advocating for a transparent, family-centred transition. Local Transition Groups being in operation swiftly and embedding clear communication will be central to the management of this process.

A Joint Letter to the Prime Minister

  • Locking up children causes harm and does not improve outcomes for children, families or communities. Our justice systems are ineffective and stacked against First Nations people, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children being criminalised at alarming rates.
  • Fams joined 200+ organisations and leaders in supporting NATSILS’ open letter to the Prime Minister calling for urgent action.

You can add your name to the letter or sign up to Raise the Age NSW.

Neighbourhood Centre Week (11 – 17 May)

  • Fams consistently advocates for place based, relational support as the foundation of effective early intervention and prevention.
  • Neighbourhood Centres play a critical role, providing trusted, local spaces where relationships are built over time.
  • Each week, more than 400,000 people access connection, support and opportunity through community centres. This year’s theme, “Your Place to Connect”, reflects the impact of community led support grounded in local knowledge and relationships.
