Strengthening and Supporting Family Preservation

Strengthening and Supporting Family Preservation

Fams hosted another Family Preservation Network last week, where over 90 representatives from across NSW gathered to commence planning for the sector support needs leading to the 2025 recommissioning.

The sector explored the key themes of:

  • The essence of what best practice looks like in Family Preservation service delivery
  • What creates success for families
  • Tools for measuring impact and,
  • The critical importance of working from a socioecological perspective.

The sector offered clear guidance to how Fams can best support as we approach recommissioning.

This includes Fams continuing to facilitate opportunities for Family Preservation services to collaborate, serve as the bridge between the NGO sector and DCJ and advocate on:

  • The unique challenges faced by rural services
  • The importance of clear communication for creating a stable, supportive service system and,
  • The fact that local community knowledge that supports successful referrals is lost via centralising referrals.

Fams is committed to ensuring Family Preservation Services feels supported and their voices heard. Keep an eye out for our next sector network meeting.
