Advocacy in Action: Taking Sector Priorities to Decision‑makers

Advocacy in Action: Taking Sector Priorities to Decision‑makers

Advocate for Children and Young People – Strategic Plan

  • The Advocate is developing its Strategic Plan 2027–30, setting priorities for how children and young people are supported and represented across NSW.
  • Fams will be engaging directly with the Advocate to share sector‑wide insights, policy priorities and practice experience from Early Intervention and Prevention services. We’ll also be offering practical suggestions for how Fams and the Advocate can work together to strengthen outcomes for children, young people and families.
  • There are opportunities for services and young people to have their say through a survey and online sessions, and we encourage our sector to engage where possible.

Have your say and read more here.

Portable Long Service Leave (PLSL) Update

  • Recent changes to the Community Services PLSL levy rate will affect how services plan and budget in the year ahead. The most recent change will reduce the levy rate to 1.3% for the first financial year (1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026).
  • While this is a positive update for many employers, we know implementation details still matter. We encourage services to read more about the update or contact the LSC directly if you need clarity about what this means for your organisation.

Check the Long Service Corporation website for more info.

Political Update

  • Fams continues to meet regularly with decision‑makers and advocates to progress better outcomes for children, families and communities.
  • With the NSW Budget 2026–27 approaching and the road to the next state election getting closer, our Advocacy Platform is guiding where and how we speak up for the sector.
  • In recent weeks, we’ve met with Alex Greenwich MP, Tina Ayyad MP and Michael Regan MP, with further meetings planned with other Members soon. These conversations are informed by the things you’ve told us matter most such as sustainable funding, effective Early Intervention and systems that work for children and families.
