Ensuring the safety of children, strengthening families, and building supportive communities is a shared responsibility that requires our collective and collaborative efforts.
This week, Fams participated in the DVNSW conference, engaging with attendees to reflect on and learn from DVNSW’s 50 years of advocacy against gendered violence.
A standout moment of the conference was the session titled ‘Redefining Feminine Leadership: Can we decolonise western systems through matriarchal empowerment?’ featuring Delia Donovan (DVNSW), Maryanne Brown (headspace), Regan Mitchell (Our Watch), and Raylene Hassall (DVNSW).
We had the opportunity to consider how family and domestic violence impacts children and women, and how living and working within a colonial system continues to detrimentally impact the victim/ survivors of family violence.
Day 2 of the conference is underway, and we eagerly anticipate hearing more learnings and stories from attendees.
Have you heard about Safe and Strong? Safe and Strong is a dual model of early intervention support for both victim survivors of family violence and their children. Safe and Strong providers and practitioners will extend family support services to families facing or at risk of family violence.
Starting in September 2024, 32 organisations will receive funding to implement Safe and Strong, with 11 ACCOs prioritized in key locations across NSW.
