We’ve been busy making sure the voice of our sector is being heard by decision-makers. Here’s what’s happening right now and what it means for our work:
Review of the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
- We’ve reinforced our key message that a strong Working with Children Check system is one part of the broader cultural and systemic shift needed to embed the Child Safe Standards across NSW.
- The OCG will now review feedback from submissions and consultations before releasing its report. We’ll keep a close eye on the next steps and share updates as they land.
NSW Inquiry into Youth Justice
- We’re partners of Raise the Age NSW, continuing our advocacy to raise the age of criminal responsibility to 14.
- Our submission is in its final stages and will be shared with you soon. Our position is that early supports, not punitive responses, are what keep children safe, strong and supported.

Investment in Early Intervention & Prevention
- Last week, the Additional Budget Estimate Hearings for Families and Communities raised several key areas of interest for our sector such as the lack of investment in Community and Family Support, Family Preservation Recommissioning and discussion on the newly released OOHC strategy.
- Despite questions being asked, we did not receive clarity and continue to await answers. These discussions highlighted how our sector’s advocacy is more important than ever as we move toward the 2027 State Election.
