The NSW Legislative Council has released its report from the Parliamentary Inquiry into Foundational Supports. Government now has an important opportunity to act on the recommendations and build something better with communities.
We support all recommendations in principle. We’re especially encouraged by the strong emphasis on co‑design, centering children’s voices and the focus on a more responsive and inclusive future system.
Some recommendations will need thoughtful implementation. Shared digital infrastructure has potential, if it builds on what already exists. System compatibility and simpler experiences must be considered deeply. Reinvention for its own sake won’t get us where we need to go.
As a member of DCJ’s Foundational Support Advisory Group, Fams will continue advocating for a Foundational Supports program that is effective and shaped by the people it exists to serve.
